Robert Moellering, Jr., M.D.,

is the Shields Warren-Mallinckrodt Professor of Medical Research at Harvard Medical School. Previously, he served as the Herrman L. Blumgart Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Physician-in-Chief and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston. He was also President and CEO of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at BIDMC. Trained as an infectious diseases specialist, Dr. Moellering has been actively involved in laboratory research for the past 35 years carrying out numerous studies of the mechanism of action and mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobial agents, and his work is reported in over 400 publications in scientific journals. He is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, Master of the American College of Physicians, and has been elected to membership in the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians. He is Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Editor of Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, and Editor of the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Moellering has received many prestigious awards, and most recently, he was the 2006 recipient of the Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases
