James Pennington, M.D., Chairman, Clinical Advisory Board

is Chief Medical Officer of Anthera Pharmaceuticals. He has over 30 years experience in drug development and medicine. Previously, he was Chief Medical Officer of CoTherix. Dr. Pennington has been responsible for submissions and approvals of 14 NDA/BLA's during his pharmaceutical career and he has worked in various senior medical management capacities at InterMune, Alpha Therapeutic, and Shaman Pharmaceuticals. He began his pharmaceutical career at Bayer Corporation, rising to VP of Biological Clinical Research. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Pennington spent 12 years as a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty where he authored over 120 research papers. He holds a B.A. from the University of Oregon and an M.D. from the University of Oregon Medical School and is Board Certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases.
