Trius Therapeutics preclinical pipeline programs are directed against highly conserved, essential bacterial proteins and are enabled through the Company’s proprietary structure based drug discovery (SBDD) capabilities and Focused Antisense Screening Technology (FAST). We focus on discovering small molecule drugs with novel mechanisms of action. These drugs are intended to treat a broad range of bacterial infections including those caused by resistant pathogens. The targets are selected based on the conservation of the active site of the molecular structure across a range of pathogenic bacteria. Our SBDD technology enables us to design compounds that are potent and selective inhibitors of enzyme activity across multiple bacterial species. This approach has already lead to the development of novel molecules with potent, broad spectrum antibacterial activity with favorable drug properties.
